    Celebrate Earth Day (April 22) by watching this though-provoking, funny, and genuinely moving film. One day, ordinary guy Jeb Berrier wonders where his disposable plastic bag goes and embarks on a global tour to unravel the complexities of our plastic world. The film will leave you both startled and smarter and is sure to change the way you look at everyday objects. Presenter Marilyn Wilburn is a member of the Discovery Committee and looks forward to examining this issue with you.   7. Introduction to Birding

    In this 3 hour workshop, Sally Avery will start off by showing us when, how and where to look for the common songbirds of the Northeast. She will also discuss landscaping elements that will help to lure these beautiful creatures to your property. For the last 1.5 hours, we will go on a field trip up the street to Turkey Hill to apply what we learned in her class and explore what birds we may hear and see in the field. Please bring binoculars if you own them. A limited number of binoculars will be available for those who do not own a pair. Please register online or by calling 781-741-1405 ext. 1404.

  3. Hingham welcomes local Middle Grade authors for an afternoon of bookish delight.

    The Hingham Public Library welcomes local middle grade authors for an afternoon of bookish delight. The authors are: Victoria J. Coe for “Fenway and Hattie” and “Fenway and Hattie: Evil Bunny Gang”, Bridget Hodder for “The Rat Prince”, Lee Gjertsen Malone for “The Last Boy at St. Edith’s”, Erin Petti for “The Peculiar Haunting of Thelma Bee”, Laura Shovan for “The Last Fifth Grade of Emerson Elementary” and Hingham’s own Monica Tesler for “Earth Force Rising” and “Tundra Trials”. Most of the authors hail from Massachusetts (except for Shovan) and each has a book or books that has been recently published. Their genres are as varied as their stories. After a brief introduction, the authors will jointly present in a moderated question and answer format, followed by a game (with PRIZES!!). The audience will also have the opportunity to ask their own questions. Books, provided by Buttonwood Books and Toys, will be available for purchase at the event.
