  13. Mindful Yoga for Everyone

    Mindful Yoga for Everyone is a sixty-minute yoga practice offering a gentle mix of Hatha yoga based styles including breathwork and meditation to stimulate the energy systems in the body, while at the same time bringing calm and peace to the mind.

    Hingham resident, Paula McCree, will lead the class. Paula is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) 200 Basic Hatha and Pranotthan, Reiki Level 1 with nine years of teaching experience. She integrates mindfulness practices based on the 7 Attitudes of Mindfulness according to Jon Kabat-Zinn throughout her classes to facilitate the connection of the mind, breath, body and spirit.

    All levels welcome, with a focus on beginners and advanced beginners. All you need is an open mind, yoga mat, towel or blanket (to roll for support as needed), and water.

  15. American Sign Language - The fascinating language with New England roots

    Did you know that American sign language is rooted in local origins through locations such as Martha's Vinyard? Manuel Martin of ASL Academy in Rhode Island comes to the Hingham Library to talk about these origins and teach us some basic ASL. You will learn the manual alphabet, learn to spell your name in ASL, counting numbers and more. There will be time for Q&A after the presentation.

  16. Hingham Chess Club: Simultaneous Chess Exhibition

    The Hingham Chess Club invites you to try your chess skills against their very own National Master Farzad Abdi in a simultaneous chess exhibition! Farzad Abdi is a nationally ranked chess player having reached the level of National Master. Farzad Abdi will play up to 20 players simultaneously.

    This event is open to the public and participation is free. To help raise funds to support the Hingham Chess Club, a suggested donation for participation of $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors will be gratefully accepted and most appreciated, but is not required.

  5. Artist-in-Residence: Fly By Night Dancers

    Children ages 5-10 and their families are invited to join us to create the Fly By Night dance troupe during this unique and interactive dance series with our inaugural artists-in-residence, Nikki Hu and Guy Van Duser.

    The program will run two Saturdays a month from January-March culminating in a final performance on March 21. Participants are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible. Learn more.

    Our Read to a Dog program provides a supportive environment to practice reading! Reading to trained therapy dogs helps develop literacy skills and builds confidence and self-esteem. Our canine friends are all wonderful, patient listeners who are looking forward to reading with you!

    The program takes place each Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30. Reading sessions last 15 minutes and are for children ages 5 and up. Please reserve a spot by calling the Children's Department at 781-741-1405 ext. 1403.
