Historical Exhibit: Winter in Hingham

Bela Whiton House Nov. 27 1898

As winter takes hold our backyards, streetscapes, historic homes, and beloved businesses take on a new and often serene look. Over Hingham’s many centuries a common and unifying theme has been the town’s embrace of the colder months. Sledding and ice skating, battling frozen harbor winds, or just getting from place to place via horse and sleigh, Hinghamites have long enjoyed (and often endured) New England’s harshest season. Come and see photos, newspapers, documents, objects, and more all showcasing wintertime in Hingham from November 6th through November 21th in the lobby of the Hingham Public Library as we all prepare for another bout with Mother Nature.
