  2. Teen Book Group: Dread Nation

    July 21, 2018, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM @ Activity Room

    All teens in grades 6 and up welcome! Drop-in event. New members are always welcome! We meet biweekly throughout the summer to discuss that meeting's books and chat over snacks. This meeting we will be discussing: Dread Nation, by Justina Ireland. Library copies of the book will be made available at the children's desk. Summary: Set in post-Civil War America, after the dead began to rise from the battlefield of Gettysburg. Children of color are required to attend schools to train them in the art of combat to protect the more well-to-do from the dead. Jane McKeene just wants to go home to her family, but when families in Baltimore go missing, she will be caught in a desperate fight against powerful enemies - and the walking dead will be the least of her problems...

  4. Bucket Band Workshop for Teens

    July 24, 2018, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Whiton Room

    South Shore Conservatory presents a percussion class for teens! The workshop will introduce basic rhythm and percussion skills using pails, buckets, etc. Jesse Stiglich, percussion teacher at South Shore Conservatory, will lead this fun workshop. No experience necessary!

  5. Anime and Manga Workshop with Robin Brenner

    July 25, 2018, 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM @ Whiton Room

    Manga and Anime enthusiasts, gather! Teens entering grade 6 and up are invited to join us for a special anime and manga workshop from local expert, Robin Brenner! Robin is a teen librarian at the Brookline Public Library in Brookline, MA. She is a national expert on comics and graphic novels and runs the graphic novel review website, No Flying No Tights. Robin has been on a number of judging committees - such as The Boston Globe Horn Book Awards, the Michael J. Printz Award, the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, and more! - and works nationally with the Young Adult Library Services Association, or YALSA.
