Volunteering
Why Volunteer?
The Hingham Public Library is a valuable and popular resource for the Town of Hingham. In order to continue to provide the best possible service to the community, the Library relies on its volunteers. Volunteering offers you an opportunity to meet others who love books and libraries, and to provide valuable service to the Library and the community. If this interests you, please consider joining our volunteer corp.

When your application is received, you will be contacted by our Volunteer Coordinator, to set up an interview. All those interested in volunteering at the Library must complete a Criminal Offense Record Investigation (CORI) form according to the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Prospective volunteers under the age of 18 must also have a signed permission form from their parents or legal guardian.
Junior Volunteer Program
The Junior Volunteer program at the Hingham Public Library is a community service opportunity for children and youth ages 12 – 16. The Junior Volunteer program provides valuable educational experience and supports the operation of the childrens and young adult services department at the Hingham Public Library. The Junior Volunteer program gives participants the opportunity to:
- Learn about the services, organization and operation of public libraries
- Develop general office and library skills
- Contribute to the community
Additionally, during the summer, high school age youth may volunteer to assist with our summer reading program. This is a great opportunity for students to earn community service credits. Applications for the summer volunteer term are available in late May.
For more information please contact the children's department at 781-741-1405 or visit the children's department to pick up an application.
