Social Worker - Cheryl West
Cheryl (Martin) West, Social Worker for the Town of Hingham, is now part of the Health Department Team as the community joins other municipalities in providing increased support for their residents and improved access to resources.
She offers free drop-in office hours on Tuesdays from 10:00 - Noon in the Library's Fearing Room and is available from 8:30 - 4:30 on Wednesdays at the Town Hall. She can be reached by calling 781-804-2370.
Cheryl is available to help with accessing emergency services (food, clothing, housing, and crisis support), education and employment, family matters, health improvement (including insurance and mental health concerns), and support groups for men, women, and teens.
Cheryl is delighted to be working with the Hingham community. She was raised in Hingham and is part of a family with many generations who resided in the town. Cheryl attended Hingham schools and cheerfully notes that her current office in the Town Hall is just doors away from what was her Social Studies classroom when the building was Central Junior High. A portion of her 10 hours a week will be spent at the library where she will be available to provide patrons with information about community resources. The library is of special interest to Cheryl who recalls riding her bike weekly to the old Hingham Public Library in Center Hingham.
Her diverse work background most recently includes counseling services for individuals and families through Aspire Health Alliance in Marshfield. She previously provided group facilitation and Social Work support at Pembroke Hospital in Pembroke, and clinical services for Bridgewater State Hospital. For a 10-year period she was Assistant Director, then Director of the Plymouth Bay Clubhouse, a day program for individuals diagnosed with major mental illness.
Outside of her active work life, Cheryl engages in art activities including water color and alcohol ink painting, and knitting. She has two children and recently welcomed her first grandchild.
Cheryl is pleased to have joined the Health Department staff and looks forward to her involvement with and support of the Hingham community.
