The Hingham Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is a great way to keep kids motivated to read during the summer months. Participants receive fun prizes each week for reading, and because there are no specific requirements or commitments, it is easy to fit the library’s reading program into a busy summer schedule.
Registration week for the 2019 reading program, A Universe of Stories, has begun! Families are invited to stop by the library to register for summer reading, pick up their copy of the summer program booklet, and stock up on books! The booklet lists our many summer offerings. You can also check our calendar for a full listing of summer events.
Opening week highlights include an Instrument Sampler with the South Shore Conservatory and Henna Sue will be at the library applying henna art to arms and hands. In July, there will be a visit from NASA solar system ambassador, Lorie Hammerstrom, talking about astronauts and mission badges as well as bringing blue flight suits for kids to try on. The Rhode Island Computer Museum will be at the library in July for their Lunar Landing Smart Robots Workshop.
Other summer offerings are the return of the ever-popular Inventor Mentors, Pop Up Art, Weekly Storytime(s) as well as STEAM with Mary Ellen (ages 5+) and STEM Playgroup for ages 3 to 5, book groups (for ages 8 and up) and a host of other activities.
Several programs have age restrictions and need registration. Details will be in our summer booklet as well as on our web site. Please call the Children’s Department at 781-741-1405 ext.1403 for more information.
A Universe of Stories is sponsored by the Hingham Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
