  14. The Tory Travails of Hingham's Martin Gay

    Join Gay family descendent Judy Petitmermet to learn about Hingham's Martin Gay, a staunch Loyalist during the American Revolution. Judy's presentation spans nearly 200 years of history from 1630 to 1824 and aims to tell the story of the "other side" of the American Revolution as seen through the experiences, travels, and surviving documents of Martin Gay.

    Judith Petitmermet is a journalist whose 50-plus year career ranged from newspapers and television to magazines, teaching, and corporate communications. She was born in Los Angeles, grew up in an Air Force family, and is a graduate of Creighton University. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

    Our listening teams are scheduled for Saturday mornings from 10:30 -11:30 - with some weeks held in-person and some via Zoom. Reading sessions last 15 minutes and are for children ages 5 and up.

    Every child who registers for this program will be able to pick up one HEXBUG® Nano (a micro robotic creature) in the Children’s Department during the week of December 27.

  18. Pop Up Art School, Mantra Insect Shadow Boxes, Ages 9 and up

    Learn about the muralist Mantra, who paints giant trompe l'oeil insect shadow boxes on the sides of buildings around the world. You'll view slides of his work and pictures of the Harry C. Belcher Lepidoptera (butterfly & moth) Collection that's housed at Tufts Library in Weymouth Massachusetts. Using images of butterflies, moths and beetles as reference, draw and paint your own realistic or imaginative insects and mount it in a paper shadow box.

    Best friends and business partners; Janell Scannell and Lisa Walker work and teach side-by-side in their business. Both have earned their BFA's and are certified art teachers for grades K to 8 in the state of Massachusetts.
