Why Volunteer
The Hingham Public Library is a valuable and popular resource for the Town of Hingham. In order to continue to provide the best possible service to the community, the Library relies on its volunteers. Volunteering offers you an opportunity to meet others who love books and libraries, and to provide valuable service to the Library and the community. If this interests you, please consider joining our team of volunteers.
Application Process
All those interested in volunteering at the Library must complete a Criminal Offense Record Investigation (CORI) form as required by the Town of Hingham, under the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws c.6 § 172.
To apply, fill out a Volunteer Application as well as a CORI Form, and drop them off at the Main Circulation Desk. All volunteer applicants must present an original form of valid identification (driver's license, passport, or school ID) when submitting the CORI form(s). You can also stop by the desk for a copy of the form.
Once your application is received, you will be contacted by our Volunteer Coordinator to set up an interview.
Volunteer Opportunities
Our volunteers help in a variety of ways including:
- selecting and delivering books for our home delivery service
- working in the library's used bookstore
- shelving books and keeping the shelves organized
- occasional special projects
Give us a call to ask about current opportunities: 781-741-1405.
