Artemisia Gentileschi: The Spirit of Caesar in the Soul of a Woman

Join art educator Janet Mandel to learn about painter Artemisia Gentileschi.

Artemisia Gentileschi was the most famous female painter of the 17th Century. Although trained by her father, she went on to have a successful, independent career, only to fall into obscurity after her death in 1656. She did astonishing work, mostly portraying courageous and rebellious female protagonists. Come and hear what inspired her—her story is as dramatic and powerful today as it was 400 years ago.

Intermediate iPad Class (Part 1 of 2)

Join Katy Mayo of South Shore Software Training for this two part intermediate iPad class. Participants will learn in-depth features of the iPad's camera app, photo editing/sharing, and how to link and share websites, photos and files. Participants will also be guided on deeper dive through their iPad's useful utility apps such as the Calendar and Notes App to fully harness their protentional in your daily life.

Collectibles Appraisal

Learn more about what your collection or cherished treasure may be worth! Rick Keller, from Perfect Pastime 617, will provide a collectibles appraisal event. Gather up all your Pokémon/sports cards/memorabilia, coins, watches, video games, comics, jewelry, sterling silver, etc. to see if you have treasure or trash! All antiques and collectibles are welcome!

Registration is required and space is limited to 18 participants. Each appointment is 10 minutes long. To join us, please register for a timeslot online.

Paper Quilling Techniques

Join us to explore basic paper quilling techniques. You’ll learn how to use a needle quilling tool to create different shapes of rolled paper strips. In this workshop we will be combining teardrop coils, tight coils, and marquee’s to make flowers. All materials will be provided.

Gentle Flow and Stretch Yoga

This is a beginner to advanced beginner hatha yoga class which focuses on the larger muscle groups with slower, thoughtful and accessible movements, mostly on the ground, combined with gentle stretching. The class also includes breathwork and meditation to help center and calm the mind to facilitate the connection of the mind, breath, body, and spirit. All you need is an open mind, yoga mat, a towel or blanket (to roll for support as needed), and water.

Tech Chat for Beginners: Settings Workshop

We’re doing something a little different this month! Bring in your phones, tablets, and laptops and learn how to change your device settings in a supervised environment. We’ll talk about settings that protect your privacy and security as well as ones that just make life a little easier.

In this informal monthly chat, we start with a bite-sized lesson before opening it up for questions and conversation facilitated by a librarian. Learn alongside other beginners, ask questions, and share any tips and tricks you’ve picked up.

Inspiration & Celebration for Women's History Month

Local historical fiction author Janis Robinson Daly will share her unique #31titleswomeninhistory program—a curated list of thirty-one books, chosen to educate and inspire to celebrate Women’s History Month—31 titles for the 31 days in March.

The list also honors the women authors who’ve told the stories of women from the shadows of history by combining the facts of exhaustive research with imagined emotional responses as the women strode forward with determination to realize the dreams in their minds and hopes in their hearts.

Evening With the Author: Meredith Elkins, PhD presents "Parenting Anxiety"

Join Meredith Elkins, Ph.D., and conversation host Jenna Paone as they introduce Meredith's new book, Parenting Anxiety: breaking the cycle of worry and raising resilient kids. Drawing on her work as Director of the McLean Anxiety Mastery Program and faculty at Harvard Medical School, Meredith will share practical, compassionate strategies for supporting anxious kids without reinforcing anxiety, and for embracing grace amidst the pressures of modern parenting. Registration is not required.

This program is presented in partnership with Buttonwood Books and Toys.

BCGS Concert: Betty’s Bounce Trio

This month's Boston Classical Guitar Society Concert features Betty’s Bounce. Betty's Bounce is a trio of two acoustic guitars and an acoustic bass that performs American Jazz and music in the spirit of guitarist Django Reinhardt, which originated in France in the 1930s. Reinhardt teamed with violinist Stéphane Grappelli to co-found the Quintette du Hot Club de France whose music from the 1930's and 40's epitomized the genre. The repertoire of Betty's Bounce includes classic and modern popular tunes played with a “gypsy” twist.
